About Us

A scenic view of a marina at dusk with boats and an American flag. — Winthrop Elks
A scenic view of a marina at dusk with boats and an American flag.

Pull up to 191 Washington Ave on a clear evening and the view stops you cold. Boston's skyline glitters across the bay, the water catches the light like scattered stars, and you realize this isn't just a lodge, it's one of the best vantage points on the entire Massachusetts coastline. That view has drawn members, wedding couples, and families to Elks Lodge 1078 for generations, and it never gets old.

Founded under the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 1078 has deep roots in Winthrop's tight-knit community. Members show up for each other in ways that go beyond a handshake: helping fellow Elks move across state lines, opening the parking lot to a traveling RV, raising funds for veterans and kids who need a hand. The 4.6-star rating across 159 reviews isn't an accident, it's the result of people who genuinely care about the guests walking through the door.

From an 80th birthday celebration to a wedding reception where the bar never ran dry and the bay reflected the whole night back at the guests, the stories told here belong to Winthrop and nowhere else.

What We Offer

Lodge 1078 is far more than a meeting hall. The waterfront event space is the centerpiece: floor-to-ceiling harbor views, a full-service bar, and a staff that knows how to keep a party moving. Weddings here consistently draw raves for the attentive team and the dramatic Boston skyline backdrop that no downtown ballroom can replicate.

Beyond weddings, the lodge hosts birthday parties, anniversaries, corporate gatherings, and community fundraisers. RV parking is available for traveling Elks members passing through the North Shore. The marina access and waterfront setting make it a natural stop for boaters exploring Boston Harbor. Sports and social programming runs year-round for members, keeping the lodge lively long after the last reception wraps.

Membership in the BPOE opens doors to a national network of lodges, charitable giving programs, veteran support initiatives, and a local community that shows up when it counts.

"Celebrated my mother in law's 80th birthday party. The Winthrop Elks was awesome. The view is like none other and the staff were great. My first time to Winthrop I'm ashamed to say having been a MA resident my entire life but I'm a South shore person but after visiting Winthrop I can see why it's so special."

"Me and my wife had our wedding reception here, and everyone was extremely helpful. It has an amazing view of Boston and the water reflects off the bay like stars. The bar was always serviced, and the price was not exorbitant. An excellent choice for anyone seeking a good reception for their marriage!"

"My good friend and his wife had their wedding reception here last September. Since it was early in the month the weather was just right. Not too cold or too warm. The location was very nice and I admired the western view towards the city. The newlywed couple arrived to the restaurant via small boat and I loved that! Both families and of course good friends and more took over the upstairs ballroom and the balcony. Since everyone's experience is different for personal reasons, and knowing it was the reception...that made all the difference. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Very good location. For locals that know this area..always important to know the weather, dress prior to the weather and it never hurts to plan in advance."

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
